Listening Post

Black Sabbath return with their first single in pretty much forever.

Here it is: God Is Dead?

By the way, sorry the absence, kids. One more day of being MIA and I'll be back in action.

Sabbath is one of my favorite bands and Masters of Reality is one of my all time favorite albums, but when I heard this song my heart sank. I've never been a fan of Ozzie's solo stuff, and frankly, over the years his voice has become very annoying. I liked a couple of songs he did with the late Randy Rhoads, but otherwise his music is rather pedestrian and not very interesting. I love Iommi's riffage here (he is the riff master), and the rhythm section of Butler and Ward is terrific as always, but Ozzie's voice is nothing but a grating distraction to me. I really wanted to like this, but I just can't seem to get past my dislike of Ozzie's contribtution. And it hurts to say that.
