I Give Up

It's rare that I'm left truly speechless. This, however, just about does it.

I feel stupider for having watched this. I'm one giant gringe. One huge douche-chill.

Jesus, the fucking white upper-middle-class condescension. The embarrassing display of just-not-getting-it. The not even slightly subtle dig at both hip-hop and hip-hop culture. I've watched so many examples of so-called "Republican outreach" fall flat on their face in the months since the GOP got the floor mopped with it back in November, but I'm not sure I've seen a better example of how, no matter how hard conservatives try, they're never going to be able to connect with anyone but the giant gated community of WASPS and the underbelly of unsophisticated yokels that are their base. Any attempt to be anything but what they truly are is just going to fail as spectacularly as Dana Perino rapping a response to Jay-Z's trip to Cuba.

Any "rap" containing "And I'm here to say" needs to go.

It's still 1987 in the suburbs. I'd expect nothing less from Dana Perino.

Holy fuck. I was listening to Irish folk music the other day and it wasn't this white. The sneering condescension and utter contempt she projects was jaw dropping, though I usually avoid Fox News at all costs, so I don't know if this is par for the course.

Thanks for having to watch that shit so that we don't have to Chez. I'll take your word that it's abomiinably horrible.

Don't African-Americans, Asians, Latinos, and alot of young people really like Jay-Z? So wouldn't needlessly picking a fight with him and running the risk of alienating even more members of those constituencis seem to be counterproductive to their supposed 'minority outreach'?

I don't think the minority outreach is going to work (at least for the next several years) because their embrace of the 'Southern Strategy', racism (subtle and not so subtle) has become so deeply ingrained in their belief system - that they literally can't help themselves.

I think they're going to have to lose the midterms, 2016, and 2018 midterms before they drive out the crazies, racists, stop getting their news exclusively from Fox etc.

Speaking of 'minority outreach' don't even get me started on Rand Paul: "Black people should be Republicans..we freed the slaves...let's just forget about the last 50 years though..."

Did he seriously think anyone was going to buy that?

Fox News wasn't trying to pick a fight with Jay Z. I think they honestly believed that it was an olive branch to minority viewers (look! we can rap!)

Compare it to a scene in Real Genius.

Dr. Meredith: A bit of advice...
Mitch: Oh, uh, thank you...
Dr. Meredith: Always...no, no...never...forget to check your references.
Mitch: Uh...ok...thank you. I'd better be going. [leaves]
Dr. Meredith to his wife: I think the young people enjoy it when I "get down" verbally, don't you?

Of course. Didn't you know that the Irish are the blacks of Europe?

Perino's rap took me back to a time when all conflict in America was predicated on: jocks vs. nerds, or socials vs. greasers. Is she being funny? Is she "reaching out"? Does she really think she can rap? It doesn't matter! She is a fucking social, and needs to be dealt with appropriately. Her performance automatically took me to that visceral emotion of irrational hate for... whatever. Hello, self-awareness much?
Further, I would like to volunteer to administer the wedgie. No, your Honor, I don't recall how my finger...
