Chris Cross

Politically, this really is the quote and image of the day: ardent Romney supporter Chris Christie addressing Fox News's couch-of-dingbats this morning and enthusiastically praising Barack Obama's response to Hurricane Sandy. He's so effusive, in fact, that it's actually a little uncomfortable to watch because you keep waiting for the screen to suddenly go to color bars or a "Please Stand By" slate as you hear Roger Ailes storming into the studio in the background shouting, "What the fuck is going on?!"

It's sad that what should be standard operating procedure -- leaders of different political stripes coming together during a time of crisis -- seems so shocking in our current political climate. Either way, this kind of pro-Obama PR on Fox News, of all outlets, is exactly what the Romney camp doesn't need right now. Although Romney's in Ohio today staging a "flood drive," because apparently, as Cesca said last night on Twitter, Ohio is Manhattan's route to the sea.

Is it horribly cynical of me to treat virtually any attempt by anyone in the GOP to make even so much as a head fake back to the center as a transparent ploy to win back the attention of the electorate?

This is the best thing I've seen all day.

Christie is interesting because he's one of the few politicians, Republican or Democrat, who seems to understand that when the world is semi-falling to pieces, you have a disaster natural or otherwise on your hands, you can in fact put all of the partisan bullshit and hatred and loathing for those on the other side of the aisle in your back pocket for a while and work together, because guess what, hurricanes/floods/tsunami/blizzards etc don't give a fuck what your politics are.

Because let's be honest here, if God does in fact loathe HTE GAYS!!!!!!!, San Francisco, and especially the Castro District would have been wiped off the face of the goddamn planet back in 1990's.

I want to believe Christie really means it and is not using this to seem "less radical" than most republicans.
