Today's column for the Daily Banter tries to reconcile our belief that we're the greatest country in the world with the fact that we produce television like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Here's a short excerpt:

"I’m not going to make my case by citing our life-expectancy, our infant mortality rate, our educational standing in comparison to the rest of the civilized world, our median household income, the number of our citizens who are behind bars, any of that — though it would be easy. The Learning Channel: where you go to learn how fucking twisted this country has become.

This shit is fucking horrible. Conservatives talk about a Culture War? Well, this is about as clear of an assault on the Enlightenment itself as you can get. They might as well call this show "Let's Laugh at the Retards!" It sickens me that I immediately had a fantasy about having everyone involved in the making of this locked inside a building and then having it set on fire "Inglorious Basterds" style.

I tried watching some of the trailer, but my stomach choked me out on my own vomit in self defense. I appreciate that it was looking out for me.

I thought 'TLC' stood for 'Toddlers, Lepers and Chucklefucks'

How's this: we're exceptionally stupid?

We work so hard to reward and promote stupidity and ignorance. We really are exceptional in that respect.

There's tons of great stuff on cable.
All you have to do is avoid the crap, and you'll be rewarded with amazing shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Episodes, etc.

Don't be weird.
