Listening Post

As straightforward rock bands go -- the kind that record mostly anthems and songs that seem engineered to be entrance themes for WWE wrestlers -- Welsh outfit Lostprophets are pretty decent. Their latest album also happens to be produced by one of my favorite people in alt rock -- Ken Andrews -- which is why it sounds so punishingly, gorgeously massive.

From the album Weapons, here's Bring 'Em Down.

Ken Andrews' band Failure is one of my favorites from the 90s; completely underrated, and totally overlooked in the annals of alt-rock greatness. His Year of the Rabbit rocks righteously, as well.

His last solo record was amazing as well, and you have no idea how pissed I am that Year of the Rabbit only recorded one album. Everything Andrews works with I end up really loving. All the bands he's associated with and whose sound he helps determine.
