Saw this today in the Wash Post:

NBC to do ‘internal investigation’ on Zimmerman segment

The “Today” show abridged the conversation between George Zimmerman and a dispatcher in the moments before the death of Trayvon Martin.

NBC aired:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

Here’s how the actual conversation went down:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.

Me: Media, fan the flames much?

I think your equivalence between NRA and marijuana legalization supporters is a false one.
Arguments for recreational use of drugs vs. guns are similar; its my body/my gun range, keep your government out.
However, the criminalization of these drugs aggravate a number of social ills:
world-leading drug incarceration rates
exploded prison populations
excuses for militarized police forces
leaving an economy in the control of criminals, and supporting their efforts elsewhere from proceeds
unavailability to those actual using it medicinally
etc.
Legalization or decriminalization would have a direct effect on all these things, even if it wouldn't outright solve them.
And it's not hippies either; consider LEAP, NORML, a number of other professionals and groups who are working toward legalization and not just because they want to smoke it freely.
On the NRA side, keeping guns legal and plentiful could arguably be seen to exacerbate all of the societal ills above. And, again, nobody is coming for your guns.
