Quote of the Day

"Rick Perry is not a racist... he is a good man. (There's) an intimidation factor, you'd better believe it. You know, if you're a Southern white guy this is part of your life."

-- Lindsey Graham on Rick Perry and the hardships of being a white man in the South

Yeah, right. Unless you're Ned Beatty in Deliverance what threats do you really face as a Southern white guy? It's not like you have any natural predators, except for maybe gravity if you happen to be a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Actually, now that I think about it, I do know something that intimidates a Southern white guy: eighth grade.

I agree that all Southern white males are bumbling illiterates who get way too much respect. I will also note that all Northeastern white males are sexually ambiguous wimps who pay other men to change the oil in their cars.

That's nonsense. Southern white men don't get a lot of respect.

Gee Whiz. I'm glad I'm not a Southern white guy. That sounds horrible. Pray for the Southern white guys.

If they stopped behaving like yahoos, we'd stop treating them like yahoos. Jesus fucking Christ, the arrogance and narcissism is astonishing from one so goddamned ignorant.

That isn't a southern thing, Chez. It's an entitled rich white guy thing. It knows no state or national boundaries.

(Personally, I loved 8th grade. It was freshman year that intimidated me. All those angry homophobic redneck football players who'd get frustrated after showering together and come pick on the tiny band geek with long hair...)

I'm from the South and this was one of the funniest posts I've ever read on this site. Keep up the good work Chez.

Makes me kinda homesick for North Florida.

You have no idea what it's like to be a white Christian man from the South, Chez. When I went to Godless New York City to find the only good thing up there-the FOX News Channel, I had some bad times, Chez. I went looking for a simple flannel shirt at a place called Jeffrey 'cause y'all don't have Walmarts where I need them. The workers in there gave me dirty looks that you would never in your life know about. Why can't I go into a place like that to buy a product while spreading the word of God and Sweet Baby Jesus? I only tried to save these Jeffrey workers from debauchery and they were incredibly mean-spirited towards me. We God-fearing white folk experience the real racism and discrimination in this once-free nation. Amen, Bill

I lived in South Carolina for almost seventeen years; I lived in North Carolina for a year. The Civil War never ended in that part of the U.S., especially South Carolina. Any suggestion that white males are no longer as important as they thought they were is greeted with this sort of bullshit. Get over it, fuckwits.

Oh, wait - I came back. My dad often used the saying, "If you're looking for sympathy, it's in the dictionary. Between shit and syphilis". Get over yourself, Mr. Graham.

Definitely a bunch of level-headed gentlemen here who can carry on a reasonable conversation on the evolution and race and socioeconomics.. oh wait. Pfft. Can you imagine if someone where to say that black males (of any geographical region) are ill-equipped to handle the intellectual hurdles of eighth grade or were a collection of "fuckwits" as a rule? I'm not one for political correctness, but I don't see joking around (especially in the comments - as opposed to the OP). I see a lot of honest-to-goodness hatred and bigotry here, and that seems to me to be about the worst way in the world to combat other instances of bigotry.

Southern men were emasculated by the Civil War. I offer you Sen. Graham as evidence.
