Listening Post

Remember when people actually cared who was doing the James Bond themes? When those songs would sometimes go on to be huge hits? Well, like most people, I spent years not enjoying a Bond theme -- until the inspired combination of Alicia Keys and Jack White did this undeniably bad-ass track for Quantum of Solace.

Here's Another Way To Die.

Nah, this is the best. Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) did the one for 'A Quantum of Solace'

Yes I've got a custom URL shortener, what of it? Hahahahaha.

Remember the ‘theory’ that posited an inverse relationship between a Bond theme and the film itself: the better the theme, the "worse" the movie.

Which makes who scores/performs the theme for the next (and quite likely last ) Bond flic somewhat intriguing – if the studio really is in such bad shape the series will end, personally I’d prefer a homage to the original (Dr. No).

If the films manage to totter along into a fast approaching senility, continuing to choose whichever singer/group/YouTube sensation du jour to riff on the theme seems apropos...

Inverse relationship, Nick?! While Goldfinger isn't my favorite Bond film (that would be From Russia With Love--which, granted, has a meh theme), I challenge anyone to deny the pure awesomeness of it, including Shirley Bassey's badass belting of the title song.

Also, while it's damning with faint praise, Live And Let Die is arguably the best Roger Moore outing and of course it has one of the usual top contenders for best theme song from the franchise.

Meanwhile, Chez, I'm a little disappointed: sure, The World Is Not Enough was 1999, but in terms of Bond films that was only a coupla movies ago. And, yeah, it isn't Garbage's best track, but Shirley Manson on her worst day is still Shirley F-ing Manson, no?

Agreed...and the video was awesome.
