Quote of the Day

"The threshold question, not usually asked, but it’s in everyone’s mind in a presidential election. ‘Should we give this person nuclear weapons?’ And the answer (in Sarah Palin's case) answers itself."

-- George Will

In case you need a quick primer on the long list of important stories the mainstream political press is currently chasing down and concentrating all of its considerable resources on, here it is:

1. A dick pic on Anthony Weiner's Twitter account

2. Sarah Palin riding around in a bus

God bless America.

I love the costume parade aspect of this Palin farce, as she goes from Leather Tuscadero one day to a pink blazer that looks like it was lifted from one of the busybody suburbanites in Edward Scissorhands. Do you think she'll dress like a witch when she gets to Massachusetts?

It would turn out okay. She'd have to ask her dad how to use them first.

NPR had a story this morning about how she was screwing with the press by not telling them where they were going to stop. All they have to do is stop looking for her, she'll call them as soon as they start to ignore her.

Are they sure the dick picture wasn't an elaborate self-deprecating joke about Anthony Weiner's name? The guy has a decent sense of humour for a politician, after all.

Given Weiner's history of joking about his name, I'm starting to wonder the same thing. It's such an odd confluence of known hoaxers and Weiner's dodgy denials, I don't know what to think.

Other than of course, who cares? Even if it's all true, what do his critics hope to achieve? Is this a resignation offense but Vitter's wasn't?

I think all items oughta be labeled like old Variety headlines. In this case -

"Prick sics dix pix for clicks."

Not to be a stickler, but shouldn't the statement have been "the QUESTION answers itself."?

Trying to wrap my head around "the answer answers itself" makes it hurt.

So what is Will's answer to his question? Who would he pick in an Obama/Palin race? I'd expect him to harumph about how we "just have to trust the adults around Palin."
