Quote of the Day

"He thinks Palin is an idiot. He thinks she’s stupid. He helped boost her up. People like Sarah Palin haven’t elevated the conservative movement."

-- Anonymous person close to Roger Ailes on the Fox News chairman, who reportedly believes that the GOP he so loves is in serious danger of losing the 2012 election and that he personally doesn't seem to be able to stop the downward slide

Gee, this makes Ailes one of ONLY three hundred million Americans who think Sarah Palin is an idiot.

Of course it's in danger, and it's his fault. Fox News is the number one contributor to the shrill, hyperbolic, and utterly illogical discourse from the right. It pioneered the use of mindless sound bites, selective memory, and flexible morality to inflame what should have been an ignorant and gullible lunatic fringe into a voting base -- and then goaded conservative politicians into kissing their asses to get elected. He's fed this beast for ten years, and now it's about to turn around and bite him.

Well, maybe if Roger Ailes and those on radio hadn't spent the last decade outcasting intelligent conservatives in favor of jingoistic simpletons, we'd have a better political system in play.

The best way I've heard it described is that Fox is an abusive spouse. It wines and dines the gullible into believing that this is the only legitimate news source, then does it's best to keep them hooked with isolating fear. And when anyone looks to another network for balance or just other information, it punishes them - calling them pinheads, insisting only true patriots would watch Fox and everyone else is a socialist/fascist traitor. You don't want to be a traitor, do you?

I have several Fox fanboys for friends, and lemme tell ya, for them to step outside of that Fox narrative is impossible for them. They refuse to admit that their precious network could be wrong, dismissing any criticism from yours truly towards one of their anchors or pundits with "[Target] is a great American."
