Why do I feel like the Democrats have been handed this messaging gift - "They want to take away your health care for more tax breaks for the rich" - and they are afraid to really run with it (and on it)? It's the dual prong that I think will really resonate with the seniors. If the Democrats let them get away with reframing that they just want to "fix" medicare, game over. I do think there are hopeful signs that Wasserman-Schultz gets it and understands the power of a simple message. But there are plenty of cases of Dems who seem like they are still conditioned to think that the Reps are supposed to set the ground rules of acceptable debate.
Hey wait a minute, Thom! I play golf on Wednesdays and I am a Democrat. I do try to hit Repubs in the fairway in front of me, though.

The Democrats will also try to make drastic cuts in Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and subsidies for the poor. That's the plan defined by the Simpson-Bowles commission, which the Democrats have embraced. They aren't going to say so, of course, until after the 2012s.
