Sacrificial Scam

I rarely think that anything I post on this silly site qualifies as important -- the kind of thing everyone needs to see and pay close attention to -- but this is one of those times. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and send this to that obnoxious asshole in your extended family who continues to bombard you with chain e-mails overflowing with Foxisms about those lazy state workers and how they're gangbanging the economy.

My issue has never been that we as a country don't need to tighten our belts in places -- it's always been where we selectively choose to do it. It's astonishing where our priorities are when it comes to forcing sacrifices on the American public -- what we're willing to do without versus what's sacrosanct.

The degree to which the right has convinced the media that the fiscal adjustment can only happen on the backs of the poor is insane. I hate to use the liberal term of "The Village" but I think it's accurate here. The villagers are afraid of the scorn they will get from the right wing think tanks if they even hinted at the common sense of raising some revenue from those that can most afford it versus cutting off the heat of those who can't. If only the Democrats weren't almost as corrupted. What's easier than turning all the Republicans whining about "redistribution of wealth" against them by pointing out that they are the ones pushing the policies that do that. All to the top.

As someone who does work with the utility industry, I can tell you that those cuts to LIHEAP funds are going to hit the elderly really hard. A lot of them depend on the assistance to help offset the costs of heating their homes in the winter.

Not as catchy as screaming about 'death panels', but there very well might be a body count.

The degree to which the Right has convinced the media that having a discussion about deficits even matters is astounding. Where was the hew and cry when the last president was converting a 2 trillion dollar surplus into a 3 trillion dollar deficit? Didn't happen. Silence. This is classic shock doctrine in action. Why the Democrats are going along. . .Or maybe I know the answer to that.

Obama to resume military commission trials for Guantánamo detainees

By Sam Youngman - 03/07/11
President Obama on Monday ordered trials by military commission to resume at Guantánamo Bay.

The move signals another defeat for Obama, who pledged to close the terrorist detention facility in Cuba within one year of taking office.

In a fact sheet, the White House said Obama “remains committed” to closing the facility, but the president’s decision to lift the ban on military commissions signals the unlikelihood that Obama will successfully transfer all of the prisoners in Cuba.

Oh boy. The streets will run red with the bitter indignation of Greenwald and Hamsher.

Think Bullet the Blue Sky when you read this. It works better that way.

Streets that were paved with the lies...

I'd send it to them Chez, but then they'd just reply with rants about welfare queens and trickle down bullshit. Logic has no place in their argument.

Saw this joke the other day on a comment section. Would be funnier if it weren't the truth:

A unionized public employee, a member of the Tea Party and a Corporate Executive are sitting at a table.

In the middle of the table there is a plate with a dozen cookies on it.

The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies, looks at the tea partier and says, ‘Look out for that union guy, he wants a piece of your cookie.’
