Quote of the Day

"Could you explain Wisconsin? It's all political, isn't it? This is just 100% politics... There is no budget crisis in Wisconsin... Have you looked at the list of the top ten donors to political campaigns in America -- the top ten highest? Seven of those ten donate to Republicans; the other three that remain of those top ten, they all donate to Democrats and they're all unions. Bust the unions -- it's over. I'm not taking a side on this -- I'm telling you what's going on... These are the facts but people don't want to hear the facts. Facts are troublesome creatures from time to time... To pretend this is about a fiscal crisis in the state of Wisconsin is malarkey."

-- Shepard Smith

As usual, Shep is the lone voice of reason at Fox News. He and Juan Williams, during this exchange on Studio B, hit it on the head. Regardless of your thoughts on unions -- whether you love them or loathe them -- everything he's saying about what's really driving the battle in Wisconsin from the Republican side is absolutely true.

Perhaps it is because I don't watch Fox News often, if ever, but this is one of the first times I have seen a Fox News anchor say something that didn't leave me with the urge to smash the nearest blunt object against my face. I may have to consider watching Shepard Smith after seeing this! I'm just glad to hear someone pointing out the obvious rather than focusing solely on the political talking points of either side.

It's common knowledge by this point that Shep is the only one who ever pushes back against the consistent tide of right wing talking points and unadulterated crazy over at Fox.

Well then you, sir, have officially encouraged me to rescind my ban on watching anything on Fox News. If only they had more people there like Shep they could actually be considered "fair and balanced."

This is why I love reading your site! I appreciate reading news-related topics covered by someone who spent so much time in the news. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to this site!

Oh, don't get me wrong -- Shep is literally the only bright light on that entire network. And thanks for the kind words.

Shepard Smith is the ONLY sane person at Fox and the only one that I will willingly watch.

If you're going to say that Shep is the only voice of reason, then I have to stand up for Brett Baier and say you should include him.

His show is reasoned and fair. It's a straight ahead news show until the panel discussion....and even that (while certainly a conservative panel) is a reasoned discussion without all the screaming hyperbole and demonization seen on the other Fox Shows.

Baier is generally decent -- not always but generally. Shep, however, is the only one actually willing to put his popularity with the audience on the line and push back against the horseshit (which is not to say that his job would ever be in jeopardy; Ailes loves him, and rightfully so).

Meh. They're both still hacks.

Don't watch FOX, you may get sucked into the vortex.

No Shepard, it isn't all political, to answer your question. This is the type of crisis that spreads to other states.

Which means it very likely that retired government workers, may have to start paying for their own health insurance, which they already earned by working for lower wages their whole life, and which, for the same reason, they can not afford to pay.

Shepard, you are doing a great job, so you deserve a straight answer. Thanks.

Would anyone who likes to complain about FOX News care to explain why FOX News is number one in the ratings?

Because the country is full of morons like you, that's why.

I truly appreciate reactions like yours. Perhaps you didn't fully understand that when said your country is full of morons, mathematically you just included yourself as a moron.

So what makes FOX News #1 and not just #1, but so far out in front of the 2nd and 3rd place ratings?

See Anon 4:51's answer. He was right the first time.
