Quote of the Day

"Palin's post-shooting message was about Palin, not about Giffords. It was defensive, not inspiring. And it was petty at a moment when Palin had been handed perhaps her last clear chance to show herself presidentially magnanimous."

-- David Frum

So, yeah, as expected Palin decided the forgo the usual news conference method of getting her message out there in favor of the one-sided conversation to be had by releasing a Vimeo video on her Facebook page like she's 16. (Don't want any of those pesky questions getting in the way of the point you're trying to make.)

I get that I'm picking on Palin when we really should be concentrating on the victims in this tragedy, but dear God is she low-hanging fruit -- not to mention the fact that she so perfectly sums up just how fucked we are by those who seem willing to be enthralled by the nexus of politics and celebrity.

By the way, watch the video if you feel like it -- there's no way I'm posting that thing here -- and marvel at Palin's hilariously clumsy, melodramatic and entirely ill-advised accusation that her critics are engaging in a "blood libel" against her, when Gabrielle Giffords happens to be Jewish. Just -- it never fails to stun me; there aren't words for what a buffoon this woman is.

From my friend's Facebook status today:

"So Palin & crew are feeling unjustly blamed for the actions of an extremist? Maybe they can ask Muslims for advice on how to deal with that."

Oh, the irony.

Palin just sealed her fate, not only as a politician but as a media figure.

"Blood libel" will prove to be the end of her. She is way to toxic for sponsors to ever touch her.

Which seems fair because I consider the Alaska show on TLC to be a way for sponsors to fund her activities while pulling a slight of hand.

Palin is like some high school drama queen that goes around saying "I hate Amanda, I wish she would die" on the day Amanda dies in a car crash. It may only be her fault on the slim chance Amanda was driving distracted do to her, but there's no way around the fact that she's going to look bad for awhile. Picking the day of her funeral to go up to everyone insisting "it's not my fault" isn't really helpful to her cause either.

"Petty"? "Defensive"? "Not inspiring"? Narcissistic? Anyone who was subjected to Going Rogue wouldn't expect any more from Mrs. Palin.

I'm pretty sure that's the reflection of the TelePrompter in her expensive eyeglasses. It could be lights, but most likely it's the TelePrompter that her ilk so rags on the president for using - as if this president is the first to use a prompter.

Who is her speech writer? It sounds way too intelligent and the Reagan quote? Right, I'm sure she pulled that one out of her butt all by herself. Gimme a break.

The gulf -- no, the gaping chasm -- between the words and tone Palin uses in prepared statements and the words and tone she uses when she is clearly her own author (think Twitter) nauseates me. The fact that she is in any way able to sustain this charade makes me wonder if P.T. Barnum didn't understate his case...

Sadly, I think the Giffords shooting is not leading to improvements in the political climate & rhetoric. Just since Monday, both sides are pointing the finger even more at each other, which just leads each side to get even more upset. To their credit, Olbermann and (I think) Shultz have apologized if anything they said suggested violence. Unless it's not making headlines, no one on the Right is doing the same. I think that's all it takes at this point, for them to say, "Hold on everyone. We're passionate, but we don't want violence. Stop carrying guns to rallies, and lets calm down." But no, the Right is vehemently denying having EVER said/done anything to suggest taking violence. I unfortunately caught a few minutes of Rush on the radio, and all he's doing is further stoking the fires.

So sad.

The Palin brand is too profitable to ignore, even after this. She'll be even more controversial now, so that guarantees continued unwarranted attention from the mainstream media... Even the stupidities she utters have been better said by others.
When has good taste ever really mattered when it comes to celebutards (especially those with their own 'Reality' show)?
Money is ultimately what decides everything. What other reason can there be for all the press she's been getting?

Just watch: Palin would just use that (i.e. sponsors droppng her) as more proof of the Marxist/Lib'rul conspiracy against 'Real Americans' like her & her addled fans.

People, PLEASE! I beseech you, stop giving her attention! We've been over and over this--maybe if we cease talking about her, maybe, just maybe, she'll go the hell away! We shouldn't even be talking about her talking about what happened in Arizona.

Please.

You can't prevent attention being paid to her, even by pleading!

The thing is, she is (as Frum pointed out) showing no presidentiality, to which I'll add that she's looking more and more Coulterish.

And that's all right. Fox needs future Becks. Your country'll be spared any risk of her perturbing things gravely.

Haven't people just been waiting for this kind of tragedy to happen again to pin it on Fox News et al? It's fucking disgusting on both ends.

Chez said...

Yeah, Mackenzie -- I couldn't be happier about the murder of a nine-year-old girl because it means I get to say "nyah-nyah!" at the right like I'm a fucking child on a playground.

Izar Talon said...

Um... no, no one has that a I know of. Dreading that it would happen and predicting that it would because they could see how things would turn out, yes, but I don't know of anyone who has been eager for this kind of thing to happen.

Disgusting on both ends? Maybe. The Left waiting for this to happen so they could pin it on the Right's media machines? I seriously doubt that, just based on ideology. But I'd seriously like to see examples of Left-leaning media personalities calling for militant resistance to the government and making thinly veiled suggestions of violence like has been standard procedure for Fox and it's ilk for the past several years.

Which side embraces militarism, firearms, and incendiary rhetoric, and which side calls for peaceful demonstrations and speaks out AGAINST firearms?

Saying that both sides have been as bad as each other is disingenuous.

Seriously? That's like saying people were just waiting for 9/11 to happen so we could pin everything on Muslims. (Although, Muslims really don't need anything to prove they're all terrorists. It's common knowledge...)

I can't really muster the anger to be pissed off about her statement, but rather at the sheer level of her stupidity. It's clear she has little understanding of what the words coming out of her mouth actually mean.

I'm even more annoyed that this woman is going to have a media platform until the day she dies. I fully expect that this will be of natural causes, when she is somewhere in her eighties and completely senile. Except that no one will be able to tell whether she is senile.

It'll either be that, or she'll die in some sort of self-inflicted, darwin award-worthy incident. Maybe from gangrene after shooting herself in the foot, or food poisoning from some undercooked moose chili.

Can someone explain what the hell the Drudge headline "President Chill Stays Cool" has to do with the speech I watched tonight? Jesus, was Pravda ever this clumsy trying to repaint reality?

Jester said...

Anon 11:35 nailed it. This just ended her Presidential aspirations, if she has them. If she'd risen above and turned the other cheek in fine Christian tradition, her abysmally bad poll numbers might have started a rebound. But -- thank God -- she didn't. Instead, she's going to be remembered as the hateful bitch that spewed venom on the same day that Barack Obama raised the bar for Presidential speeches for the next hundred years or so.

She's done for 2012. And I couldn't be happier.

This woman says "BLOOD LIBEL" after she accused this Jewish Congresswoman of voting to put her Christian child in front of a death panel. This is why I don't believe in any gods. If there were any, the earth would have opened up and swallowed her whole.
