Quote of the Day

This is without a doubt my favorite thing that's ever been written about me:

"It is truly sad that someone like Mr. Pazienza has a public forum to express his views. In a more civilized time he would, at best, be confined to an institution for the criminally insane or, at the very least, marginalized from civilized society."

-- From aptly named Huffington Post commenter "Pharmacan," responding to my piece on Julian Assange from October of this year.

And thus begins, in fine fashion, the Deus Ex Malcontent Best of 2010.

Well, if you mean by crazy, I guess you'd be Howling Mad Murdock from the A-Team.

Crazy, but awesome.
Crazy awesome.

One of the things that keeps me coming back here is that I don't agree with everything you say. Most of it yeah, but occasionally I will totally disagree on most or all points. This is the case with Assange (the fact that I am Australian and think it's disgusting the way our government is hanging him out to dry probably has something to do with it) and the fact that I keep checking back here regardless lets me know that I keep coming back because it's a genuinely good blog, and not just something I read to see my own views parroted back.

HuffPo is not the place to go for a wild variety of viewpoints. I get that. This is unsurprising. Every partisan political site has a version of this mentality. What's always shocking to me, though, is how easily some of the HuffPo faithful resign themselves to the idea of a near-Police State that doesn't allow anyone else's opinion. They hypocrisy is lost on them.
They bitch and moan about the monopoly on thought that is FOX News, but as soon as someone shows up on HuffPo saying anything other than the approved party line? Well, that person should be confined to a rubber room, at the very least.

Chugga makes a point.

But moreover, Pharmacan sounds easily forty years past his time. Not since the Sixties has such a comment been conceivable (take it from someone who was there at the time).

Well you gotta admit. He's got you down cold, man. Happy Holidays you nut.

Wow Chez, you must be simply glowing with pride!

I'm with Chugga here - reading views that are similar to my own, as well as ones that are polar opposites (and all from one person) is very important to a civilized discourse in a not-so civilized time.

Yes, it is sad that you exercise freedom of speech, and are not detained for doing so.

Obviously, the silencing of opinions is a sign of a "civilized time"

Oh, irony.

When we invert "Pharmacan", we break the secret code for "Karmafan".

As a fellow fan of karma, I think what "Karmafan" is trying to say is that the effects of your actions Chez, determines your destiny in your next incarnation.

The English have a couple of terms for people like this.... 'Prat' is one of the best, and there doesn't seem to be an exact equivalent in American usage, although 'entitled douchebag' comes close.

I choose to think that in a more civilized time you would be confined to the Lepetomane Institute for the Treatment of the Insane Gambler.

I guess I'm the only one who read that as sarcasm then? But I don't spend too much time on HuffPo, so maybe I'm missing some context...

"... marginalized from civilized society." ??? I thought that your box seats for viewing "civilized society" is from the margins. That's why it's just so damn funny. Hello -- making a mockery of mockery -- does Pharmacan (or Pharmacan't) not get the humor of this?
Write on, Chez. Write on!

I can think of reasons to have you committed, but that article is not one.

Chez, when you DO escape, and somehow manage to get Tom Cruise controlled, can you please send me your meds? I'll make brunch.
Keep writing.
