Listening Post

Sure it's a bit gimmicky, what with being told from the perspective of a concerned and fed-up pet and all, but there's no denying what a wonderful and sweet little song this is. It makes me smile every time I hear it.

From Canada's the Weakerthans, this is Plea from a Cat Named Virtute.

Typo! The cat's named Virtute, latin for something winnipegian, I think. Like a motto.

If you think this is weepy (and that's a John K Samson trait -- he's the principal in the Weakerthans), check out Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure!...

All sorts of Weakerthans songs are available at the following url, with my suggestion at the top.

Thank you for the correction, you Canadian, you. It's interesting after Googling it how many people made the same mistake I did. Guess it's a natural sort of brain fart.

Yup, Chez, even in Canada, even with Radio 3 afficionados, the mistake gets made.

We all read 'word pictures' after all, not word spellings. And we go fast. Pitfalls of the internet age...

I love the bitter grimness of 'One Great City!'

I know it's about a specific city but god it feels like most of the U.S. Midwest as well.
