Quote of the Day

"I praise you 24/7!!! And this how you do me!!! You expect me to learn from this???How??? I'll never forget this!! Ever!! Thx Tho."

-- Buffalo Bills receiver Steve Johnson, appearing to blame God via Twitter for the fact that he dropped a potentially game-winning touchdown pass yesterday against the Steelers

I can't even begin to express how much I love this. Tell me that after all the shameless groveling that sports stars do before the almighty whenever they win -- as if God gives a shit what the NFL standings are or some other such nonsense -- you haven't waited to see somebody turn around and put the blame on God when he loses. In fact, I'm pretty sure comic Jeff Stilson once did a really good bit about this kind of thing. "We were doing great, until Jesus made me fumble!"

That just might be the best thing I've ever seen on Twitter. The pure rage and sense of entitlement is mind-boggling.

Clearly God took Buffalo and the points.

I laughed my ass off when I saw this. How does he eat with those hands?

George Carlin also did a bit on this. It was very funny. (Duh.) Glad I finally got to see it happen in real life.

In a stunning upset that no one saw coming, God is now 1486 and 1.

Johnson tweeted, "I praise you 24/7!!! And this [is] how you do me!!! You expect me to learn from this??? How??? I'll never forget this!! Ever!! Thx Tho."

In the spirit of the holiday season, as rumor may have it, God tweeted back an opposite inversion to Johnson, "You praised me 24/7!!! And this [was] how I did you!!! I expected you to learn from this??? How??? Will you ever forget this? Never!! You're welcome Tho."

George Carlin also had a similar comment on religious athletes. I believe it was on his "Back In Town" album: "The good Lord tripped me up behind the line of scrimmage."

I was at the Saturday night Notre Dame @ USC football game at the L.A. Coliseum in which Ro Jo (Ronald Johnson) dropped a potential game-winning 53-yard td pass with 1:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was not a good weekend for the Johnsons. Both Ronald and Steve stepped on their Johnsons. They will have to do better than that to be the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time).

Dear God,

'hope you get this Twitter, and...
I pray I can make a first down here.
I need a big reception so the fans will cheer.
But all the people who skipped church to be here, see their faces full of shock,
'cause I couldn't pull down the rock from Fitz.
I can't believe in you.

I don't take his point to blame "God" or whomever/whatever it is he gives praise. Rather, it is his acknowledgement that he does not comprehend the workings of the universe, escpecaily in light of his hubris (previous weeks T-Shirt "flash") and his apreciation for the fact that praise doesn't guarantee earthly successes. As evidenced by the "Thx Tho".
