Quote of the Day

"You're running your mouth just to talk shit... Your such a faggot... Sorry that all you guys are jealous of my families success and you guys aren't goin to go anywhere with your lives."

-- 16-year-old Willow Palin via her mother's official press secretariat, Facebook, and continuing the Palin tradition of dignity, class and restraint

Willow apparently took offense to some of the taunts of her "friends" during the premiere episode of the Palins' new reality show on TLC earlier this week -- that would be the reality show not currently airing 24/7 in real reality (and if the Charlie Kaufman-esque meta-Mobius strip doesn't have you dizzy by now, you apparently own stock in Dramamine).

There's probably going to be a lot of talk about the supposed homophobic slurs being angrily volleyed by young Willow -- who, if you need a Palin clan refresher course isn't the chunky one on Dancing with the Stars and isn't the one with Down Syndrome -- but my favorite part of the above quote is actually the kid's defiantly condescending shot at everyone who didn't have the arbitrary good fortune of having a desperate septuagenarian cynically pick their mom out of obscurity and hand her a winning ticket in the pop culture Powerball. Oh yeah, and everyone who doesn't have a mother whose naked ambition and self-obsession is so all-consuming that she'll do just about anything to keep her and her Beverly Hillbilly brood in the spotlight.

By the way, and I know I'll catch hell for this but it was honestly the first thing that came to mind: Now that Willow's 16, and from the picture above a rather attractive 16 at that, how long before she follows in her family's reality TV evolutionary footsteps and winds up "accidentally" posting naked pictures -- or a sex tape -- of herself on the internet?

i really hope this doesnt explode into some huge scandalous news story..

shes 16 dude. i dont know about you, but i did some incredibly regrettable and stupid shit at 16. there are many words you can use to describe 16 year olds, and "dignity, class, and restraint" definitely aren't three of them.

i dont know, its hard for me to really look down on what some bitchy high school kid writes on her facebook. i recognize her mom has pretty much the same mentality, which is unacceptable. but this girl doesn't know any better. and she was obviously pushed to a point where she couldn't take it anymore.

when i was 16, i put dog shit in my brother's shoes because he was being an asshole about something one day. i was an idiot. please dont judge me.

I am fairly sure I would dislike Willow, and her methods are awful, but in her defense (cringe), she's a 16-year-old girl defending her family.

Back when I was 16, if someone was taking shots at my family, I would have just cried and run away. So good for her for sticking up for Mom, even if we don't like her Mom, or the words she used.

You mean we might get to see her become a teen mom?

I hate to state the obvious but she needs to pay more attention at school so she doesn't look even more idiotic. Surely by 16, even in Alaska they would be taught the difference between your and you're. It kind of makes her statement sound very silly if you take the proper meaning of your. I kind of feel sorry for the kids in that family.

Joe & Robert -- I actually agree with you. Everybody's watching her, which means that eventually she's bound to say or do something stupid and it will be broadcast everywhere. That said, even at 16 she should probably have a handle on the fact that, yes, what she says will be broadcast everywhere. But that's fine anyway -- the Palins will just draw some dumb ass analogy between Willow's anger and how Grizzly cubs react when their mama's attacked or some such horseshit. And Sarah's fans will eat it up.

"Willow, why did you write this on your facebook?"

"umm.. My mom said... we did this for the show."

Palin-istic will be the "word of the year" in 2011.

Synonymous with dumb, vacuous and opportunistic.

You should stick to picking on her mother.

It is pretty unbecoming of you to go beatin up on a kid, regardless of how vile her mother is.

Soon, I hope.

If, by some miracle, Sarah Palin were ever elected president, "Dueling Banjos" should be played instead of "Hail to the Chief".

I guess my beef with this falls squarely in the "grammar monkey" category. I could not care less who her family are, I just hate to have to read yet another example of the very rapid deconstruction of the written English language, thanks to texting, twitter, chat, l33tspeak, and all the rest of the Orwellian gibberish that passes for language these days, that not enough people seem to be alarmed about.

How many "families" does Ms. Palin have? She should pick one, and have someone explain what a possessive apostrophe is for.

We can laugh all we want, but her generation will be running things real soon.

I'd type more, but now I have to go take some Metamucil and shoo some kids off my lawn.

I'm glad somebody else already mentioned the whole pregnant thing. If she isn't already having her ankles pinned behind her ears queefing her way across an ice rink or had more clubs in her than the local arena locker room I'd certainly be surprised.

I rather enjoyed her performance as Ellen Page's best friend in that roller derby flick.

As I have done so many times the last ten years, I must ask myself again: What did they do in Sodom and Gomorrah that got them zapped that we haven't done yet?

I'm pretty much the last guy to throw around words like "sexist" and "misogynistic" with reckless abandon, but a couple of these comments are really over the line. And I say this as someone who despises Sarah Palin and everything she represents.

Chez said...

I get your point, John, but things get a little tasteless around here once in awhile and I know you know that. Bacon, as for "beating up" on Willow Palin -- I'm really taking a pretty minor swipe at her family, in the great scheme of things. I really feel like I shouldn't have to say this anymore, but Sarah Palin was the one who thrust not simply herself but her entire brood into the spotlight in the name of furthering her own career; she's made them all players in her reality TV show, both figuratively and literally. Sorry, but that makes them fair game to an extent.

Chez said...

Actually, before anyone says anything -- I misspoke. They're not "fair game" -- but it is fair to point out when they do something embarrassing or stupid.

John Foley said...

Yeah, I know it gets rough. I'm no shrinking violet myself. And I would never tell anyone to stop being offensive or to clean up their language. Jus...a couple of these comments made even me cringe. I think we can all see that the kid's a total dipshit, but calling her a slut seems a little much.

Chez, yer psikick: "A Palin family source told TMZ that Willow doesn’t usually use homophobic language, and it was simply a case of baby bear defending mama grizzly."

From http://swns.com/sarah-palins-daughter-in-homophobia-row-171529.html

It details things a little differently, and apparently 2 sisters are involved.

Sigh.

I wonder if her Uncle Jed Clampett regrets findin' that there oil yet.

One of these days he's gonna have to have a loooong talk with that girl.

If The Family doesn't like criticism, perhaps The Family should stop doing stupid shit in public.

I enjoyed the line about Bristol being the "chunky" Palin. She is, eh?

Anyway, if anyone objects to this comment, I'll be on Votar's porch helping to shoo them there grammar-eschewing varmints.

The reasons the Palin's have such a hard time with their public lives are the same reasons why many lotto winners go off the deep end.

And don't think for one second that momma isn't playing up the guns-and-glory GOP either.

Hey, she's just learning what all sixteen year old kids with decent parents already know. Facebook is public and if you post on it will will have to face the consequences.

Kids get denied admission to colleges and lose jobs over what they post on Facebook. Also, what their friends post on their pages.

Although, I can understand why this Palin bimbette is confused. Her mom spews hatred and nonsense constantly and never faces any consequences.

Thanks to being a Palin, Willow herself didn't have to face any consequences when she trashed a property of her mother's good friends the Morlocks in 2009 - the boys that came with her had less luck.

http://palingates.blogspot.com/2010/07/sarah-and-todd-palin-jeremy-morlocks.html

Asking her to watch herself, when she's used to any member of her family getting away with everything - it's ludicrous.

By the way, the owners of the property trashed are indeed the parents of Jeremy Morlock, "killing for fun" in Iraq - whose sister is Bristol's best friend.
