Quotes of the Day

"This is not a time for compromise, and I can tell you that we will not compromise."

-- John Boehner

"Look, the time to go along and get along is over."

-- Mike Pence

The hilarious thing about these statements is that they imply that up until now the Republicans in Congress have been the picture of bipartisan cooperation, rather than the deranged pack of obstinate howler monkeys they've actually acted like.

The depressing thing, of course, is that these statements all but guarantee that once these children take the House, the government will grind to a crushing halt.

As Taibbi said so beautifully recently -- man, they really broke the mold when they created these assholes.

Meanwhile, in a discussion with progressive bloggers the other day, Obama said:

"I'm a pretty stubborn guy when it comes to, on the one hand, trying to get cooperation. I don't give up just because I didn't get cooperation on this issue; I'll try the next issue. If the Republicans don't agree with me on fiscal policy, maybe they'll agree with me on infrastructure. If they don't agree with me on infrastructure, I'll try to see if they agree with me on education.

So I'm just going to keep on trying to see where they want to move the country forward."

This leaves me speechless other than an obligatory WTF, Mr. President?

You know what I really love about this, actually? The picture -- with Pence appearing to enviously check out Boehner's bronzed playboy cock.

This is depressing, sure - but "deranged pack of obstinate howler monkeys" completely made my day. Thank you.
