that Campbell's has no issue marketing a line of soups of Muslims says more about the genuine influence of the Tea party than all of the so-called insightful political commentaries combined. what's more (forgive the odd metaphor) American Apple Pie than Campbell's soup?
Campbell's is also selling a Tea Party soup...Condensed Doughnuts
Muslims outnumber teabaggers. Do they know that? Campbell's does.
Let's see: lunatic fringe opinion taking over the government. Check.Religious fervor overcoming sanity. Check.Demonization of conflicting opinions. Check. Can we just start calling these guys the Tealiban?
I heard Obama had meetings early in his senate run with Campbells. They palled around quite a bit, reportedly. I mean, first there was kosher food. And now this? Give us our country back!!!
Red lentil? Today's Friday; it's clam chowder. Manhattan style, of course.Tomorrow: Tomato Basque.
On the other hand, "Terrorist Soup" might make a cool band name.
Uhm...this is only in Canada. Meanwhile, here in the USA, at the risk of sounding Sanchezy, there is an entire aisle in the two supermarkets near my home dedicated to foodstuffs meeting the dietary requirements of Judaism. At the Verizon Center where my beloved Washington Capitals play there is now a kosher food stand. In any event, I'm full of admiration. Has there ever been a braver political protest than boycotting soup?
We the Taliban declare that in the hated and decadent America, the streets shall run red with...HALAL TOMATO SOUP!(In any case, I'm really looking forward to Campbell's halal bean with bacon soup)
You know, something just occurred to me...the Tea Party folks are really big proponents of lassez faire capitalism, so......shouldn't this group be happy that Campbell's has found an extra marketing opportunity to bolster its wealth?Especially since every Muslim dollar buying a can of soup is one less dollar in the hands of the Taliban or Al Queda?
@B8ovin, et. al. -- Silly, and yes, depressing - the jokes equating halal to Kosher. When was last time a Jew blew himself up in order to kill others? hmmm? The last time a Jew murdered innocent Americans in the name of Jehovah? The last time a Jew robbed American children of their mothers/fathers/uncles/aunts... Not so funny now, is it?You people play right into their hands...it's all about 'hate the jews!' with them, & you bought it whole-hog (forgive the irresistable pun)...Makes me ask myself, 'Who, exactly, is the patsy here? Who's the sucker?' @SteveR -- "Muslims outnumber teabaggers. Do they know that?" You have no idea who you're talking about; or WHAT you're talking about; just your self-satisfied little corner of the 'progressive' universe. Keep dreaming - dawn will soon break.
you know you're a true patriot when you're willing to boycott shitty, overly-salted soup.
@Alisa Rosenbaum: Have you ever heard of the Irgun or the Stern Gang? If you have, I suppose you think they were quilting circles. By the way, try organizing your thoughts into some coherent message before posting. I'm not trying to police this site (not my business), it's just a general suggestion.@Jester: I LOVE it, but some "liberals' will complain that it's unfair because the Taliban and Teabaggers are different entities.
Alisa is totally right...instead of making jokes and comparisons with kosher, we should find some way to work in some other terrorist fringe group who represents a VERY SMALL minority of a religious population.......hmmmmm, like Christians who advocate killing physicians who provide abortions and who harangue women seeking reproductive advice, even when they aren't seeking abortions.I wonder how long it will take folks like her to stop thinking Muslim = terrorist/America hater/Jew despiser.Probably even longer than it will take to realize Black doesn't equal gangbanger/welfare cheat/crackhead/criminal
Look, it's Campbell's Canada. And due to the ties and relative ease of travel among Commonwealth nations, Canada has a pretty substantial Muslim population, and had to get over institutional discrimination a long time ago. That's not to say our neighbors to the north are free of racism; but they do have a very different take on Islam. So in Canada, Campbell's is free to launch a line of halal soups as a market-driven decision. Here in the US, not so much, so they didn't.
The only comparison is that the rules to keeping kosher and halal are quite similar; probably from when Muslims, Jews and Christians were all one, the children of Abraham. And considering shellfish and red tide and undercooked pork and trichinosis, these rules make perfect sense, especially "back in the day".
@Alisa: just comparing the size of target markets: Muslims vs. Teabaggers. By the way, not all Muslims are terrorists. Did you know that?
