The several thousand mile-long ocean between me and this...this EPIC GLORY might be a bit of a detriment. Also the visa I would need from our U.S Embassy. And the money. But aside from that, I would be all over this like white on rice.
I just fangasmed. While John Stewart seemed to be capturing the very essence of the Coffee Party, Stephen Colbert's half made me laugh harder than I've done in a long time. "Book your hotels now...or your children might turn gay"If I can get off work, and I can find cheap plane/train tickets and one of my friends will host me for the weekend, I'm so there. (Especially in light of several of my family going to Glenn Beck's masturbatory festival a few weeks ago)
I'm not sure anyone is actually going to travel across the country for the sake of irony. This has the potential to be an embarrassing flop. Of course they could just appropriate another tea-party tactic and claim there were 5 times as many people at the rally as there actually were.
I wonder what the vegas line would be for whether this event would beat 87,000.
Whole lotta 'Fuck yeah!' going on right now. I don't think this rally is going to be given a lot of credibility in the media, but I think it has the potential to be a surprisingly large draw.
I'm seriously going to try and go and make it an educational trip for my 11 year-old so- - we'd go and do a few days at the Mall & Smithsonian, and then I'd indoctrinate him in political protest using an irony-rich atmosphere.
Im seriously thinking about taking the Chinatown bus down there for it. I have some friends in town from LA but I would drag them for the day. Any other DxM readers wnat to meet up!?
I'm sure it's going to be hilarious, but the whole point of being reasonable is not going on a pilgrimage somewhere when there's no money! Who will show up, and take a stand for irony and snarky humor? Probably not as many as Beck got, because we Daily Show watchers aren't that kind of nutjob!
We are going, already got a hotel room, and have many pairs of comfortable shoes. If there are other DxM'rs coming, sing out, we can drink and cry, and come up with fun signs, most of which will be far too difficult for most reporters to understand. That kinda makes me happy.
