Quote of the Day

"The most powerful statement by the organizers of the planned Sept. 11th bonfire would be to call it off in the name and love of Jesus Christ."

-- Leith Anderson, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, on the plan by a Florida church to burn copies of the Koran this coming September 11th as a statement against the supposed evil of Islam

No, the most powerful statement would be to call this obscenely ridiculous spectacle off in the name of logic and reason. Wouldn't that be nice for a change?

Oh, and I rest my case that Florida truly is the engorged penis of the United States.

I dunno about your comparison, there.

Seems more like limp dick to me.

Weak mind and limp dick.

Someone pointed out that you'll need to buy a heck of a lot of copies of the Koran to have a decent fire. So if they believe followers of Islam are terrorists, aren't they funding terrorism by buying the books from (presumably) Muslim printers?

why don't they just draw cartoons of the Prophet and burn those?

Slightly related, have you seen this: Jesus Shore

Not sure whether to laugh or weep for humanity.

How bout some toons bout covered up faces of women, married to guys with a couple of wives, who have the freedom to warehouse them at home, without the right to vote or get a divorce.

Let that freedom flag ride high in downtown Manhattan.

And forget the cartoon books - how bout some large, Manhattan sized billboards showing all the freedoms that submission can bring to your life and mine.

Aren't any actions once sanctioned by the Nazi's a de facto indication of Nazism for right wingers? I will enjoy the FoxNews attacks on this church with the same fervor they displayed for those two black guys in front of the Philly polling place. Or not.

Homer Simpson once replied to a doctor who urged him to go to Florida for a vacation to relax: "Florida? That's America's wang!".

You know who else burned books: HITLER!1!1!1!

Calling it off in the name of logic and reason would work fine for me. As an anti-theist (as opposed to an atheist) so would calling it off in the name of God however one defines God. Decency, courtesy, or the position of the moon, would also be fine. YMMV, but I think that calling it off is the salient point. Doesn't matter why.
