Cup Dreams

If by some chance you've been following this site since the very beginning, you know that four years ago I devoted an obscene amount of copy to the 2006 World Cup. That's because if I loved soccer any more I'd probably qualify as a full-fledged hooligan.

Well, tomorrow the obsession begins again.

And here's something to get you in the mood -- a reminder of how and why football rules globally and why, occasionally, commercials really can reach the level of art.

I'm a Che-come-lately so I had no idea about your futbol madness. The closest I've come to experiencing World Cup fever was finding myself in Quebec City in the summer of 1998 on the day France beat Brazil. My oh my, was that a dusk-to-dawn party!

My problem with that commercial is that Ronaldo (Simpson-ized) is not orange enough.

The highlight is Rooney demolishing Federer at ping pong. Love it.

This post is the polar opposite of the post going up on my blog tomorrow. I'm glad the rest of the sports world cares so I don't have to. I still have a hockey hangover.

Nice to see some interest in the tournament from you USians. :-)
I've just got back home from attending the France vs Uruguay game. Some goals would have been nice, but it was entertaining enough.
