Two examples of how the future is finally becoming that thing we were promised in the movies.
The Impress flexible display:
And the new HTC Evo 4G smartphone -- which features a camera under the screen, enabling face-to-face video calls:
I have the HTC Droid Eris and it's a terrific phone -- but this thing just wastes it.

Promised in the movies only to be denied by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
That is sick!
I seriously feel like past Marty when he sees future Marty in the house for the first time in Back to the Future II.
All I can add is...
"Roads? Where we're going...we don't need roads"
k, now shoot me for quoting that.
Chez, I was thinking about getting the Droid Eris. Is there anything specific to that phone that you like about it or you just like the phone in general?
Well I used to have the BB Storm so anything's an improvement, but I really like the Eris. It's tiny, which I love -- even smaller than the iPhone -- it has tons of apps, a 5mp camera, it's easy as hell to use, the Google Android platform is just quick as hell and incredibly responsive -- to the point where I can actually perform a lot of functions here on the blog by remote.
I'm very happy with it overall. Great phone.
If I could back Chez up, I've got the Eris as well. Coming from a Curve this thing is ridiculously fast and responsive. Highly recommend it.
The "Impress" display does nothing but leave me un-impress-ed. Application wise, neat, but useless.
Perhaps they'll sell some to Disney so that kids can play with it at EPCOT.
The sound field application they use on the Impress is the first type of application that came to my mind. Using this with a laptop as a souped-up touch sensitive sound manipulation device, like a Korg Kaos Pad on steroids, could be awesome fun.
Virtual theremin apps FTW!
That's fresh! I like the A grade porn music, too! Makes it more sexy.
The next iPhone is rumored to have video chat as well.
I've got the LG Dare. It's not a bad phone, but it lags sometimes and the responsivness of the touchscreen is lacking. The next my contract has a phone upgrade available, I think I'm going to get the Eris. Thanks.
I just want a phone with a battery that won't drain so easily.
I actually went to the Sprint store near my house and the salesperson actually talked me out of buying a new phone to wait for the EVO that is supposed to be out this summer. After watching the video, I am glad I took his advice.
