"We're slaves to our different audiences, for MTV that's millennials, who are vastly different than Generation X. They're definitely less cynical -- they're more civic minded. Millennials are really about authentic reality and family. (That's why MTV) played up the camaraderie and family elements in Jersey Shore to appeal to them."
-- MTV Networks President Van Toffler
So I'm too cynical to appreciate the authenticity, sense of family, and general civic-mindedness of Jersey Shore.
Man, this quote is great on so many different levels.

Maybe it's just the fact that I was born right around the border line between the two generation labels and am therefore underdeveloped in both cynicism and civic-mindedness, but I honestly don't have a damn clue what this guy is trying to say.
Wowsers.
Unbelievable. The class of I-can-say-ANYTHING is here. As if everyone had been raised on using the Big Lie system of talking.
Can somebody translate that into plain English?
I want to see that guy eat a sandwich load of what he is shoveling. Lets create a "reality" show called "Douchebags".
Run with it.
If they're referring to the the (supposed) authenticity, sense of family, and civic-mindedness of Jwowws gravity-defying assets, then sure, ok.
Whatever helps you sleep through the night, Toffler.
Oh how pleased I am that I live in a day where if I want to see a video by a band I like I have to watch it in shite quality on YouTube (provided the record label hasn't yanked it).
Thank god I can turn on MTV and watch obnoxious orange caricatures who I would barely spare a passing glance in real life.
Apparently douchebag is now synonymous with authentic. Interesting. Hadn't considered that before.
Just -- just the entire idea of saying that they "played up" something on a reality show to appeal to a group's authenticity is one giant Mobius strip of meta.
Just because it involves more than one person does make "camaderie and family elements" equivalent to hot tub sex.
"family elements" including fist-pumping, bitch slapping, indoor tanning, fake boobs, hooking up with guidos and paying homage to Ed Hardy any square inch of flesh they can!
Now THAT's an American Family I can stand behind! Healthy moral values, MTV.
the bigger the lie the more they believe.
Some research person at MTVN fed VT that line from a PowerPoint presentation from the Intelligence Group or some other silly trendspotting research company. People like him believe any qualitative crap that comes across their desk.
