Listening Post

When you think of bands that have stood the test of time -- in that they've stayed essentially intact for three decades and have continued to make relevant music throughout -- Depeche Mode may not immediately come to mind. But they should.

It's shocking to think that these guys were huge back when I was in high school, and yet somehow 25 years later they've managed to release one of the best records of their very long career -- Songs of the Universe.

From that album, here's Wrong.

When I was 17 (11 years ago), I got out of a speeding ticket going around 20 mph over, in a residential area, on a day that I had forgotten my driver's license, because I had a Depeche Mode sticker on my car and the cop had been a fan when he was a teenager.

Not sure if you've heard this yet: I and Love and You~The Avett Brothers.

Has kind of an Uncle Tupelo feel to it. Nice song.

The video for Wrong is INSANE.

@WPofD -- damn right it's insane! Actually, their videos for SOTU have been pretty risky for all intents and purposes - have you seen the video for "Hole To Feed"? It's directed by Eric from Tim & Eric, and it's -- uh, it's interesting, to say the least!

@Tommy B -- Looks like the clothier for The Fifth Element meets every rejected potential MTV Real World cast member ... and Gene Simmons' tongue.

Thanks for posting this, by the way. I'm a long time DM fan but had somehow missed the new cd. Just bought it the other day, and I'm loving it. So...thanks.
