Listening Post

It's been seven years since Massive Attack released a proper album of new material and if you've got any musical taste whatsoever, you know that that's too damn long.

Heligoland is scheduled to hit stores and iTunes on February 8th, and this is the first single from the record. You know I'm often wary about posting bootlegs, but this one is for the most part excellent quality; it's a live performance in Brixton that includes Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz. (He's one of several guest vocalists on Heligoland, including Hope Sandoval, Martina Topley-Bird and of course, Horace Andy.)

This is Splitting the Atom.

And here's the studio version of the song:

is the album's name meant to be pronounced Hell-I-Go Land?

I started listening to it without paying much attention to the video and thought "Good lord, Damon Albarn sounds a lot like Leonard Cohen these days."

According to Wiki, Alanna, Heligoland is comprised of two islands, located just off the German coast.

In 1947, the Brits gathered up all of the surplus WWII ammunition that they could find, distributed it across the islands and initiated what may be the single largest man-made explosion ever.

Literally, a massive attack. That's just a guess, though.
