Quote of the Week 1973

"There are times when an abortion is necessary. I know that. When you have a black and a white. Or a rape."

-- Richard Nixon, in a newly released White House recording made not long after the Roe v. Wade decision

How much do you love that interracial sex comes before rape?

Wow. That really makes me want to die a little inside.

However, it also gives me hope that one day (hopefully sooner rather than later) young adults will be looking back on comments made today about gay marriage with the same disbelief.

Despite all of his flaws, Patriotic President Nixon was a man of courage and honor. He felt he was standing up for the right things at the time however wrong he was on interracial marriage.

I'll tell you that in the White household, we were embarrassed by good folk who talked like the president did in those tapes.

One of my best friends growing up was Ernie, a beautiful African-American fellow who always followed the word of God and Jesus.

Pres. Nixon was wrong on the black/white part of the talking on that tape, but he was right about how abortion led to unlimited Godless sexual activity.

I always loved President Nixon and I'm sure years later, he was sorry for his thoughts. With the help of Rev. Graham, President Nixon could have corrected his ways while in office, but the far left wing Congress and despicable media drove him out of town.

Look what happened after Pres. Nixon was forced out of office: much more abortion, drug use, higher taxes, bigger government, secularism, unpatriotic Jimmy Carter who destroyed this country and the economy; Bill Clinton who destroyed the country's moral fiber and economy; now this installed-President Obama is really wrecking this economy.

When will you McFlys learn that history is now vindicating President Nixon as it will with the honorable President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney? And look at how history is showing us that Jimmy Carter made it so much worse for the Hebrews and the oil industry; Bill Clinton brought us 9-11, unemployment and a wrecked Wall Street?

We are going further down that horrible path.

I used to date a woman who drank way too many Black and Whites...maybe that's what he was talking about. :)

And that kind of thing is the reason we'll always have Richard Nixon to kick around. Gone, but unforgettable. Almost makes you hope there really is a Hell for him to rot in somewhere.

At least he left out Jews this time for a change....

I'm just going to go ahead and give Tricky Dick the benefit of the doubt here and hope that by "a black and a white" he meant "a black and white situation," not "an Afro-American and Caucasian relation"

Doubtful, though.

Wow. Backward as Tricky Dick was, its amazing that in some ways he's more progressive than today's Republicans.

I mean, at least he acknowledges that there are occasions when an abortion might be necessary (and it isn't like today's Republicans are any more racially sensitive, just less blatant in their rhetoric.)

Unlimited Godless sexual activity. Yes! Bill White FTW!

Hunter S. Thompson wrote an absolutely scathing obituary in Rolling Stone for Nixon- the first lines read:

NOTES ON THE PASSING OF AN AMERICAN MONSTER....HE WAS A LIAR AND A QUITTER, AND HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BURIED AT SEA. ...BUT HE WAS, AFTER ALL, THE PRESIDENT.

It just gets better from there.

(And Bill White, you are awesome)

Oh man... I love Bill White's schtick. Makes me miss Weekly World News and the Ed Anger columns.

Sad thing is, I know people that really do blame the bad economy on Clinton (the guy who paid down the national debt) instead of the past eight years... and they sincerely believe its true. Because Fox News told them so.

It gives me hope that Bill White is in favour of interracial marriage. I bet in 20 years time, he'll be in favour of gay marriage as well. Way to get ahead of the curve Bill!

If the right people had been in charge of Nixon's funeral, his casket would have been launched into one of those open-sewage canals that empty into the ocean just south of Los Angeles. He was a swine of a man and a jabbering dupe of a president. Nixon was so crooked that he needed servants to help him screw his pants on every morning. Even his funeral was illegal. He was queer in the deepest way. His body should have been burned in a trash bin.

"Richard Nixon will abort the mulatto baby created when David Letterman mouth-raped you!"

This all makes sense, though. According to that hemorrhoid from the Ayn Rand Institute, Nixon's racist remark is actually in line with the left. So this revelation that he really was a liberal must be a crushing blow to the GOP.

If only Hunter was still alive...

Eric,

The Jews get their share in some other snippets. I only heard it once, so I don't have an exact quote, but it was something along the lines of wishing "our Jewish friends wouldn't bring this stuff down on themselves" and wondering whether or not Jews have a death wish.

I'm making a mental list of the people I know who would agree with this statement.

*shudder*

(hint: they're some of the same ones who worship at the alter of Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly)

Chez, Chez, Chez, *shakes head sadly* you're as bad as FAUXNOISE when it comes to taking stuff out of context. Nixon didn't say what you quoted him as saying. He said, "There are times ... a black and a white."

Then Chuck Colson said, "Or a rape."

To which Nixon replied, "Or rape."

Which arguably makes it worse as one has to wonder if Nixon would have come up with rape being an excuse for an abortion on his own.

The quote was transcribed directly from Washington Monthly, whom I happen to trust (with good reason).

At least history will forever know Nixon's answer when asked the question, "What's black and white and red all over?"
