Well, I wasn't going to say anything -- but she's actually pretty lousy.
Why is she a hypocrite? Her showing off her fake tits doesn't have anything to do with the way she feels about the legality of gay marriage. I think you could probably make some accurate inferences about how she feels about the morality of homosexuality, but that's all they would be - inferences, based on nothing she's said about her own moral superiority. I don't agree with her statements in the slightest, but she's a garden-variety idiot being attacked like a member of the American Taliban who's been discovered getting a beej from a tranny hooker. I have no problem with people arguing against her viewpoint, but personal attacks that are unrelated to the actual issue are a disservice to everyone.
I wonder how long it'll be before she starts referring to them as the "holy hooters", thinking that'll deflect criticism as being against her religious beliefs.

I was actually waiting for someone to say that. The hypocrisy comes not from her position on gay marriage -- because that subject and her posing topless are apples and oranges (no pun intended). The problem is that since she became an inadvertent darling of the Christian right, she's opportunistically embraced that label and attempted to milk it (one again, no pun intended) for all it's worth.
THAT'S the hypocrisy -- that she claims to be a die-hard Christian, and not just someone who disagrees with same-sex marriage, but obviously isn't hyper-moral enough to avoid taking her top off for money and to advance her modeling her career -- which she all but admits is more important to her than her faith.

With respect, I disagree with you. A picture of her topless when she was 17 is hardly evidence of hypocrisy. She'd have to be out there preaching about chastity WHILE posing for it to qualify as hypocrisy. I would also argue that you can't possibly know what this girl is thinking and therefore cannot judge her motives for anything. Your issues with the fanatical right are generally spot-on, but this time, you've slipped to their level.
I can't believe I'm actually coming to her defense, sort of, but I have to wonder why she can't be both.
Our modern notion of what a "good christian" is (shit I really can't believe I'm arguing this) is a rather puritanical and conservative one. The damage that Protestant intolerance has done to our society with regard to sexuality is something we're still a long way off from repairing.
This woman is pretty* and also christian. Are the two really mutually exclusive? Considering all the energy that has been poured into the debate here over the last few days, it seems strange now to insist that Ms. Prejean must abide by primitive rules about nudity that I would like to think our species is slowly growing out of, finally. So what if she earns some money acknowledging what we can all see right in front of us?
Setting aside the gay marriage thing (a non-story which doesn't interest me in the least, and which only serves to help that douche nozzle Perez Hilton to fellate himself in front of us a little while longer), don't we want to encourage more conservatives (who look like her, anyway) willing to reject all this 17th century nonsense about the naked female body? Or should we burn her at the stake for exposing the flesh of her ankle -- and oh, so much more -- in public?

Yay, I won! Chez, fair enough - and I somewhat agree. I didn't take that away from your post because I assumed you meant it the same way as the other people who have commented on her supposed hypocrisy.
Votar makes a good point, too, though - what exactly does it mean to be a "good" follower of a faith? Are a tolerant gay couple who go to church every Sunday worse Catholics than the bigoted, hateful woman who does the same? Can someone be accused of hypocrisy when the ins and outs of her beliefs and rationales aren't known? (Well, yes, because she has publicly adopted a specific dogma.) But in any case, the distinctions of who is a good follower and a bad follower lead to nothing except religious and societal fracture, not to mention further affirmation of my belief that people should spend more time working on their personal relationship with God (or lack thereof) and less time working around the bullshit of institutions.
Gay marriage is evil! But making money by showing my boobies is just fun and games! Tee hee.

Ever since she said that, I've been going back to my Bible and trying to figure out where God says it's acceptable to prance around in a bikini and judge others.
And while I truly enjoyed Votar's defense of Miss California's right to bear witness and bare skin without contradicting each other; I have to disagree. She is using a standard to form and defend her opinion of what rights gay men and women should have. She should be judged by that same standard.
Why is it okay for her to judge gays but not okay for people to judge her?
