Listening Post: St. Patrick's Day Edition

I have a feeling this song is going to become tradition around these parts on St. Patrick's Day. It's Dropkick Murphys, with I'm Shipping Up to Boston.

I like their version of Dirty Water, but honestly, up here in Boston people either love them or hate them, and both groups are loud about it! The streets will run with borrowed green beer tonight!!!

It is one of my few regrets in life that I've yet to hit Boston for SPD. I did, however, enjoy many drunken SPDs in NYC in my misspent youth, where there was a bar in the West Village that gave free liquor to anyone named Patrick or Patricia on SBD. Nothing like getting falling down drunk at nine in the morning and not paying a dime for it.

The Dropkicks!

Last night out at the bar celebrating St. Patrick's Day I played at least 8 Dropkick Murphy songs. They are fantastic! Then, just to add some diversity, I added a few songs from The Pogues, The Clash, and The Suicide Machines, too. I probably spent 10 dollars on the jukebox alone. Damn. I spent WAY too much last night.
