Northern Exposure

If you need any more evidence that -- ironically, sadly -- The Daily Show is responsible for some of the best, most necessary journalism of this entire presidential campaign, just watch this:

And that is why I'd kill Jimmy Fallon for a spot on the Daily Show. They get paid to be smartasses that tell the truth, through scathing comedy. It's my dream job, really.

Jason Jones, please don't leave the Daily Show. I'm sure they'll allow you pie and a bald eagle in your dressing room if you stay.

It's official. The mayor of Wasilla can be replaced by a rubber stamp and a balloon tied to a brick.

This is why the only "news" programs I watch with regularity are The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report. Follow them up with a weekly dose of Real Time with Bill Maher, and (sadly) I feel that I get a better review of real issues, than by watching mainstream news.

Obama should fire his ad campaign manager and just lift The Daily Show's bits. I wish it were a longer piece.

...and yet, our main stream media don't seem to think these points are worth discussing.

"Do you think being Mayor of Wasilla Alaska pepares you for the role of U.S. President?"

"An unequivicol yes!"

"How?"

"How?"

What a waste of oxygen that woman is. If all you do is sign checks, just buy a stamp and be done with you. I know house plants that would've come up with a better answer.

Here is the simple difference between The Daily Show and the majority of the media, especially the televised media:

The Daily Show is produced by smart people and intended for smart people. It assumes that its audience is relatively well informed and able to process information.

Most news shows are produced by a combination of smart and stupid people for consumption by, apparently, Grade A Morons. CNN insults its viewers on a regular basis, reporting on nonsense and breaking down issues so simplistically that they literally seem to be aiming at third graders. Network news is just as bad. Fox is propaganda with reams of lies and manipulative language and MSNBC is MSNBC. Rachel Maddow's decent and Olbermann can be okay, but they're both opinion focused and seem to assume a modestly informed public. CNN Headline News issues regular paychecks to Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace, and not due to some horrible accounting accident, they do it on purpose.

Why is it so hard to find news intended for intelligent, educated people? The market is out there, and it's a very affluent demographic. It's supposed to be the liberal media elite. MORE NEWS FOR ELITISTS!

A self inking rubber stamp costs $15.00 + tax. I bought one last week.

Yes, indeed, that is small town America. Palin's "Real America". As someone who lives in a town with less than 1500 people, I can tell you that local residents are, indeed, mostly poorly educated, and under-employed. Unfortunately, the conversation has been turned from "what can we do to lift these communities out of their dire economic and social situations?" to a culture war Molotov cocktail. The GOP, he very party of the moneyed captains of industry, has somehow pinned a badge of honor on being poor, ignorant, and righteous. How can we possibly fight that?!?

My apologies for the gloom and doom, but I am still hung over from Palin's visit here in Colorado yesterday. Ugh.
