Hey all
This is my family business in the fly over states; http://polyfabcorp.com/index.htm
Dad started it in 1972, I have 30 years in, currently kicking Chinese ass, making manufacturing work in the USA. Robots, one piece flow, 5S, lean. Tell me again how dumb I am.

You know me from past posts as Hoss (Thanks Chez)
Why can't I adopt the gee whizz country bumpkin persona? Its the internet, no one knows you're a dog.
Please let me know how Obamas failure to support new weapons systems is good for America.

Let go of that poor Chinaman.

Is that really all it comes down to, man -- weapons systems?

Don't get me wrong; I'm not some hippie who believes that war is never the answer -- but really -- with everything that's going on right now...

Weapons systems?

What is this, 1980?

Well, I like the USA leading the world in tech. A large part of that is the result of R+D from military spending. We could talk of the 5 axis CNC milling machines that were developed to make quiet props for nucular subs, if you want.

Chez said...

Really?

That's the tech that we need to be leading the world in -- the ability to blow shit out of the sky?

Dear God are our priorities out of whack.

VOTAR said...

Chillax, Chez.

Nucular subs need to be more quiet like.

For sneakin up on varmints.

Wait wait wait...

Sorry, I can't resist.

John, you are aware that every single one of the robots described on your own website, making manufacturing work in the USA...

is MADE IN JAPAN?

You might remember me from past posts about the unwillingness of the left/right to actually talk without insults and disrespect.
I hope we can all rise up to be the best we can be, and discuss things without calling each other stupid or babykillinggungrabbers( oh,shit, sorry).

So johnfromwisconsin...

You really believe that it is the Constitutional duty of our government to fund research and development for the hi-tech industry on the taxpayer's tit? And in the form of weapons systems, no less? (Weapons systems that will have to be "tested out" in asinine displays of force almost always against brown people who have little means of fighting back - think Panama.)

Back to the original point, tho - your support of a presidential candidate depends on his/her/its willingness to publicly mandate hi-tech R&D, just so same companies can turn around a few years later and sell us the wonderful gadgets (that we fucking paid to develop) for a second round of obscene profits?

Gotta love that free market.

Wow, this is actually some of the best satire I've seen in a long time, if only because it took me a while to realize it WASN'T really her blog.

I'm sure McCain will find some way to blame Obama for this...

Dear Hoss John Wisconsonian,

I found your post enlightening. You may have heard of a country called Japan, whose government, not being allowed to have a professional military, began giving awards to companies for technological research in the sixties. They were, back then, the laughing stock of the world. What they did is shell out millions of dollars for research that paid back billions in products sold to the U.S. consumer. Things like transitor radios, televisions, home vcrs, gas saving cars that changed the world.

Now looking at the military spending of the U.S. we see useful products like chain guns, non-lethal weapons, smart bombs, stealth planes. All very cool, all bought with tax payer money and all available only to the military, sold only by the contractors who live soley by selling things to the government.

What are the two big areas of R&D that have the best prospect of making billions for the U.S? Medical research in the area of stem cell applications and alternative energy. So, which one of the presidents supports BOTH those areas? Obama. Bush butchered those money cows, and McCain is war monger who will undoubtedly turn his back on both those prospects.

Of course, if you work in the military industrial complex I'm sure you want to do what's right for you and never mind the country. I just hope you're not wearing a flag lapel pin or waving a flag outside your house, because you aren't a patriot. A patriot does what is best for his country, and more Bush like spending on defense contracts is not patriotic, it's idiotic.

Thank you. A thoughful well- reasoned statement of your POV.

I forgot to concede your point.
Reason number 4832 to vote for Obama, he is not in big oils pocket.
