Saturday Night Griever

Just when I thought this election couldn't get any dumber, Carly Fiorina shoots her mouth off and inadvertently invents an entirely new concept: Meta-irony.

(The Huffington Post: McCain Spokeswoman Calls Tina Fey's Sarah Palin Impression "Sexist"/9.15.08)

For the record, I always figured liberals were the ones with no sense of humor.

You know, it struck me today why Palin is such a brilliant pick for McCain. McCain has absolutely nothing new for his campaign, which is why it almost died before everyone else peeled off and left him the only one standing for the GOP. His speeches say little to nothing about his policies, and are more about feeling than intelligence. So why pick Palin?

Because there is no such thing as bad press. Smear her all you want, and you know what you get? SNL spots, higher search hits in google (YouTube), more front pages, and more free TV spots.

Obama has been left in the dust. I think his policies are better, his running mate is way more qualified, and he's running a damn good campaign. But see him on the pages like you do Palin? No way.

I have to hand it to the Republicans - they learned from Hollywood. The people the Republicans wanted to seal the deal with were the conservative Christians and now they have them. So now, steal the front page from the other campaign and it's a sure fire victory.

It's like they're reflexively gagging out the word sexist anymore. like it's a twitch or something.

"sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean that she lacks substance"

It's not sexist even a little bit. not one little bit.

You're right, there are so many layers of irony going on i can't even handle it.

Carly needs to take her $21 million & stick it where the sun don't shine.

Hey Carly, jealous much????

Linda in Houston - the part that was told to "stay put" and is in no way retarded.

BTW - the beaurocracy in this state has not gotten it together to implement a plan to get all 4 million people out safely in the unfortunate event we ARE ordered to evacuate. People died on the road trying to get out before Rita 3 years ago and not much has changed. Still not enough gas, etc., and the beat goes on.

My family, friends and I all agree that in such an event with things the way they are, we just have to put our heads between our legs and kiss our ass goodbye!! Sad but true.

Post BTW - our governor is a Bushie Republican who tried to make all the tween girls in Texas get the new vaccine for the (can't remember the name) sexually contracted disease. Turned out a good pal of his is on the board of the drug company that manufactures the vaccine. And it was not tested much and is causing horrible problems for some people that have taken it.

Not saying a Dem would have done any better on the hurricane evacuation or the vaccine thing but one does wonder.

Chez,

Seriously. How do we beat this? What can the average girl on the street do?

Regarding the article linked by Dona, it indicated that "likely voters" were polled.

Does that mean they left out the demographics that historically, have been unlikely to vote? Who would that be?

A bit of encouraging news yesterday from North Jersey:

A doorbell ring around dinnertime revealed a young twenty-something soliciting funds for Obama and the DNC. She may have only gotten a mugging from my dogs, a bottle thrown at her by my 13-month old, and a check from me, but I got something that I haven't had in quite sometime...faith in the youth of this country.

"...Fey was "sexist" and failed to delve into Palin's substance"

That's extra-funny, since Palin herself, by avoiding press conferences and public discussions, is side-stepping any possible substance she may have. Why should a comedian do any better?
