Youngblood????
No wonder he got her pregnant. He's got those Federline-ish good looks...if Fereline had a semi-mullet, liked ice hockey, and randomly liked to "shoot shit".
Also? "The boy's mother, Sherry Johnston, said there had been no pressure put on her son to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin and the two teens had made plans to wed before it was known she was pregnant." I totally believe this. He has "family man" written all over his face.
That couple would be right at home here in NC, provided they got cut off from their well-to-do parent(s), lost some teeth (her, he played hockey), and put a car on blocks in front of their strine green stripe patterned trailer.
Yee-haw.
It bugs me that wealthy people flaunt their ability to allow a child to bear a child. It's not like it sets any precedent that allows the pro-life movement any legitimate traction, because most people - and I don't mean this negatively - have their futures abjectly ruined by an early-life baby.
That's not to say that a child is a ruination of life, but, oh hell, you either get my point or you don't.
It's late for me, and the words aren't. Grok?
When the world falls apart some things stay in place
Levi Johnston's tears run down his face
As a former high school hockey player, I'm getting a kick out of these replies.
Though the mother's comment about them planning to marry even before they knew about the baby is even funnier.
It is entirely possible that these two kids, upon learning she was pregnant, were planning on staying together and getting married. While it often doesn't end well, granted, I have seen situations similar to this one where the parents are still happily married years later, despite an very early and somewhat rocky start.
It is also worth noting that life is very different in rural and northern communities. (Cue the whole, "Doc Hollywood" scene.) I have been a city kid all my life, but my wife is from a rural, northern community. Kids just grow up faster in those places, or at the very least are doing more adult activities at an earlier age, be it hunting, driving, splitting wood, and, yes, drinking and having sex. Stories like Bristol Palin's pregnancy are shocking and somewhat scandalous in the big city and its suburbs, but in small, rural towns, it barely raises an eyebrow. It is rarer than it once was, but then again so is having five kids. The Palins are a bit of a throwback, a family that city people might find strange, but the kind of family that rural folks would recognize immediately.
Just one person's theory, but I think Democrat partisans are walking into a huge trap by going after Palin. The GOP would love nothing better than for the campaign to be a culture war, because they stand a fair chance of winning that one. If I'm the Obama campaign, I would ignore the Palin distraction, and keep this thing focused on the issues that have been working for me so far.
Unfortunately, it's already a culture war. And you're right -- that's exactly what they want.
it's like christmas! I should be working but the hits just keep on coming.
Despite that, I'm afraid there are just too many conservative rednecks in the U.S. and they'll vote McCain 'cause they, too, like to shoot the shit same as Levi.
I wonder if a guy, like myself, was found out to be gay in the same bar Levi and his other drunken friends were hanging out, whether I would get beaten in the parking lot by a few whacks of their hockey sticks as I attempt to reach my car?
Family Values
Coming from a small town I have to say that it isn't that we aren't shocked when teens get knocked up, it is that it happens so often that we just shake our heads. Like everything, you become numb to it.
Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms
[Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.
After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.]
Covenant House
In a place like South Florida where there's a constant influx of new people, there are always significant numbers of teenagers and kids who just get left, abandoned by their parents, kicked out, or they escape monstrous abuse. Troubled young people and teen parents from across the US and immigrants from other countries as well end up at Covenant Houses when they have no place else to go.
I'm familiar with Covenant House in Fort Lauderdale, and it is extremely important for young kids in that area who find themselves on the street. They prevent young girls and young boys from going into prostitution and doing drugs. I've known kids who escaped some of the uglier realities of life on the street with the help of this organization.
As far as I'm concerned, anybody who cuts funding for such a vitally important organization is becoming a willing contributor to the degradation of society.

Palin's Church May Have Shaped Controversial Worldview
[Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.
"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."]
[...Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode."]
[During the 2004 election season, he praised President Bush's performance during a debate with Sen. John Kerry, then offered a not-so-subtle message about his personal candidate preferences. "I'm not going tell you who to vote for, but if you vote for this particular person, I question your salvation. I'm sorry." Kalnins added: "If every Christian will vote righteously, it would be a landslide every time."]
[Months after hinting at possible damnation for Kerry supporters, Kalnins bristled at the treatment President Bush was receiving over the federal government's handling of Hurricane Katrina. "I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."
Much of his support for the current administration has come in the realm of foreign affairs. Kalnins has preached that the 9/11 attacks and the invasion of Iraq were part of a "world war" over the Christian faith, one in which Jesus Christ had called upon believers to be willing to sacrifice their lives.]
[He preaches repeatedly about the "end times" or "last days," an apocalyptic prophesy held by a small but vocal group of Christian leaders. During his appearance with Palin in June, he declared, "I believe Alaska is one of the refuge states in the last days, and hundreds of thousands of people are going to come to the state to seek refuge and the church has to be ready to minister to them."]
OK, seriously, this is making news out of nothing. The end of the linked article pretty much sums up my feelings: "It also was disclosed that Palin's husband had been arrested on a drunken-driving charge two decades ago."
TWO FUCKING DECADES AGO. Seriously. THIS IS NEWS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED 20 YEARS AGO! OMG!
I've gotten 6 speeding tickets over the past 8 years, was caught pulling the fire alarm in high school, and I once got a look at some boobies. THIS IS INTERESTING AND RELEVENT NEWS.
Seriously now. If you're gonna crucify Sarah, at least try to make it relevent and objective, at this point, I'm seeing nothing here that should be made a big deal about. In fact, I don't even know why any of this is even being mentioned, its not a deal it at all.
I've seen exgirlfriends give a crap less over a shorter period of time, much less 20 years.
March --
You're right: The DUI is utterly meaningless and there are in fact about a dozen more recent and relevant concerns. But to point out that one issue that some are harping on and using it as an excuse to discount all the rest is somewhat dishonest.
God damn it March, don't be like the rest of 2004 Ohio and fuck this up, because I will hunt you down and let my Rott get a big chunk out of your numbskull head of yours. Haven't you heard enough of Palin (outside this board) to just throw up?
TBH, I didn't vote in 2004. And in retrospect, I'm ok with it that I didn't.
However, I'm not really as concerned with Palin as perhaps others are getting all hung up on it. Point taken Chez.
See, my big issue is the hypocracy, I could deal with Palin as VP if she stated that she was gonna be a right-wing nut job and kinda follow through. Earlier in this whole Election 2008 fun, I read a very interesting article breaking down each candidate's prospective on technology, from net neutrality and the retroactive immunity for telcos bill to copyright and patent reform. At that time, Obama looked to be right up my alley, he was gun ho about net neutrality along with many other issues I agreed with, including being against
What got me? The fact the he later voted for the FISA bill. I'm a bit bitter, and that action alone stands out in my mind that there are significant issues where Obama will say one thing, and then back down later. And then on top of that Obama choose Biden, a senator that is the definition of the RIAA and MPAA's lapdog. Not to mention Biden's track record in voting pretty much completely against any form of significant privacy.
God, I hate these elections because I end up getting frustrated about what I hate about candidates more than I think about how "great life will be with the new president Mr. Whoever (or Mrs. Whoever, to be politically these days)"
I'll run for president in 11 years, lets see how it goes eh?
