Celebrity Spin

Last week Matt Damon blasted Sarah Palin, calling her hockey mom candidacy "absurd," and "like a really bad Disney movie."

Needless to say, Palin's spokespeople shot back unimaginatively by calling Damon just another one of Barack Obama's "celebrity friends."

This weekend, celebrity Matt Damon has been in Haiti, handing out sacks of grain to victims of Hurricane Ike and helping to repair some of the damage done by the storm -- while vice presidential candiate Sarah Palin can be found on the cover of just about every tabloid and lifestyle magazine in U.S. publication.

By the way, as a favor to Palin I should point out that Haiti is an island in the Caribbean -- it can be seen from Cuba. Cuba meanwhile is an island in the Caribbean that can be seen from Florida.

Florida can be seen every week on Cops.

it's so sad that the only thing the mccain campaign can come up with 1. to comment on and 2. the comment itself, is the celebrity thing.

there's absolutely no substance or direction offered by their campaign. just this kind of silliness. where are their people, any of them right now. i'd love to hear someone supporting that ticket inform me of active citizenship and community participation anywhere in this country right now. where is rush limbaugh today? is he helping someone? where is sarah palin today? is she doing something real for the people of the u.s. or anywhere else today? at least matt damon (who i personally feel ambivalent about) is doing something with his time.

Aww, c'mon, or maybe, come off of it. Palin doesn't edit those magazines and choose their cover stories. She's become an object of media attention because of her candidacy, just as Obama before her.

Matt Damon is an actor, and all actors, whether they admit it or not, seek stardom and the attendant celebrity. And Damon is both a celebrity and Obama supporter.

Just pointing out the irony.

And these days I'm seeing Palin as a far more accomplished actor than anyone in Hollywood.

hahaha

I still can't believe the McCain people are using the "Alaska is close to Russia" as a legitimate answer to her foreign policy experience. Seriously? Didn't that start out as a joke??

So, if Palin were from Florida, not only would she be an expert on Cuban relations, since she could probably see it from her backyard, but she'd also get the support of many loyal "Cops" viewers...

God, I'm so scared McCain's gonna win this one.

Matt Damon said it all very succinctly. I now have love for him that goes beyond his portrayal of that mean kid in School Ties.

What is so scary is that it's true. It is like a bad Disney movie. Holy hell on earth, when will this country wake up?

And for Peter's comment, well, Palin's image is very strongly controlled by McCain's camp. I can't imagine that they didn't have any input whatsoever into putting her on the cover of People magazine or whatever rag she's currently decorating.

I would LOVE to see her as governor of Florida. An actual state. With actual problems existing beyond funding a bridge that goes nowhere and distancing yourself from that crazy Stevens guy. Honestly, if she could successfully handle governing Florida, then I might, MIGHT, have some respect for her.

As it is, I can only respect her for a good choice of hairstylist. Whoever cuts those bangs sure knows what they are doing.

Matt Damon rocks. Being socially and politically relevant in the same week gets an A+ for kicka+ss in my book.

He also manages to do it without seeming slimy like Brangelina do when they parade their philanthropic efforts. Hopefully he can keep it that way.
