You really can milk the concept of one poor guy being sadistically inundated with insanity for comedy gold.
As you watch this cartoon, pay close attention to all the different facial expressions Pa Bear cycles through toward the end; that's pretty much what I look like while I'm reading about stuff like Obama and McCain spending an evening talking faith with Rick Warren, or Oprah extolling the dangers of "Empathy Deficit Disorder."
From 1951, here's the Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese near-masterpiece of lunacy, A Bear for Punishment.

One of the other installments in this series where Bugs Bunny does the whole Goldilocks routine with the bear family is equally as awesome.
Could you imagine what it must have been like to just hang out and joke around with someone like Michael Maltese? He's one of the members of that golden era group that seems to have very little written about him -- but his stuff was always genius.
The look on his face at 5:39 is golden.
Oh, man ... thanks, Chez. This was my dad's favorite cartoon, and I haven't seen it since he passed on ... until now. Great memories.
hehe. that look of dull creeping terror combined with bone deep bafflement is the same as was on randall's face in clerks 2, during the "pillow pants" explanation.
my favorite scene, btw.
