Listening Post

Nine Inch Nails is one of the few bands working today -- Radiohead being another -- that could release an album for free via its website and still manage to make money off of it by putting it up for sale in a standard format later.

Here's one of the reasons why: From The Slip, it's Echoplex.

I'll bet Rush could do it... the fan base is rabid and loyal enough.

The Pretenders are doing it right now...releasing a free album that is. One track a week for download until the official album release, Sept. 23rd.

BTW- Boots of Chinese Plastic kicks. It could easily be a lost track from their first album.

trent has nothing to do with it....the addition of arnold horshack to the band is obviously paying off big time.

I was sent by e-mail the pre-sale download of this. As with all of their previous releases, I have to slowly let it sink in. What an interesting detour into a crunchy stripped down sound Trent is taking. Nine Inch Nails as garage band.
