Listening Post

I'll say one thing for Death Cab for Cutie: I'm not sure anyone saw this coming.

One album into their major label deal and they take a sharp left turn, releasing as the first single from their new record a dark, atmospheric, eight-and-a-half minute opus -- a track that bleeds nighttime.

It's an unusual sound for them.

It's also amazing.

I Will Possess Your Heart.

I have been reading your blog for quite awhile now. I love your writing, your sarcasm, all of it. But I have to admit what gets me the most, your musical tastes. You and I listen to a lot of the same types of music. When you have something posted that I've not heard, it seems every time to be something that just knocks my socks off. I owe you for my Bats for lashes obsession as well as Goldfrapp, and now the new Death Cab- Thank you for all you write Chaz but really thank you for sharing the music.

Wow. I had avoided this since it hit the interwebs a few days ago. An 8 1/2 minute single sounds even a little pretentious to a self-avowed Tool fan. But, wow...that song is just about perfect.

Thanks.

I'm chillin at work on a easy Friday and am hitting up all of the listening posts I've missed.

This is a great song. I heard a 4 minute version of it on Sirius yesterday, but this is even better. Plus, I'd much rather an 8 minute song than a formulaic 3 minute job any day.

Nice pick.

Great song. Very different from anything Death Cab has done in the past. Thanks!
