For the first time in my life, I just can't find the words.
(Because there are those within the family of Jayne and myself who don't want to know whether our baby is a boy or a girl, I won't post that information here on the main page. Spoiler Alert: For those interested in learning the details, click the comment link. Anyone wishing to be kept in the dark -- you've been warned.)

It's a girl!
Inara Grace Pazienza
She's healthy, active, and she and Mom are doing just fine.
Due date: August 4th.
So does this mean she'll be starting her Companion training right away?
I knew it!
She's gonna give you gray hair, Pazienza! ;)
Many congrats and well wishes for you, Jayne and your family!
Fine, make me get all teary at work with pictures of your cute, smiley baby.
Congratulations to the both of you.
Congrats!
Long time reader, first time poster.
When we were expecting I was hoping for a boy. It turned out to be a girl - and thank goodness. The baby boys I've seen are much tougher - they pee in your face when you're changing their diaper, they're stronger fighters when they don't want you to change their diaper, they usually hit their milestones later (can't tell you why they're upset, etc.), and they're more aggressive. Of course, when they're teenagers, it's a different story...but you should be gray by then anyway.
I love your choice of names.
the new Bella Abzug
WOOT! Congratulations!
Thank you for sharing the pictures. I know this whole process happens, what? - a billion times a year or so? - but I can't see baby ultrasounds without almost wanting to cry from awe.
You really are a Firefly fan, aren't you? Anyway, it's a very beautiful name for a very beautiful girl.
Our own second child is just 10 weeks along, and we had our first ultrasound yesterday. It's so amazing that one tiny, grainy, thermal-printed black & white image can elicit so much joy.
Congratulations again, and God bless you both.
Congrats! Awesome news, and very cool name.
Jayne...Inara...should we assume there will eventually be a Mal or Zoe Pazienza?
Seriously, congrats.
You named her after the Firefly character, didn't you.
That's... just so awesome.
Congratulations, guys.
Get ready, because everything is about change. And I mean everything from your outlook on life, to your thought processes.
Of course, there's all those responsibilities you're going to have to deal with, but it's all worth it just for that first look into your baby girl's eyes.
Enjoy this time, because before you know it she'll be dating and asking for the car. :-)
Is the August 4th date a conspicuous political statement on your part? I know you're a supporter, but damn man!
Seriously, though, I've been reading your blog for a while and wish nothing but the best for you and your family! Congrats!
I was 38 when my daughter was born; she's four now. Today her brother taught her how to count to ten in Spanish and how to punch me in the balls. Good times.
Congratulations, Jayne and Chez.
p.s.-Grace: Named for "[your] most enduring song?"
Grace was indeed my favorite song of ours. Loved beating the crap out of the drums on that one.
But no, the baby isn't named after it.
One of these days you'll have to tell me how you know that by the way.
Hmm and it's so cool that Jayne swallowed a tiny Curious George monkey toy in there so she'll have something to play with for the next five months. That was so thoughtful!
Looks like there's another, tiny litte baby, swimming around in there!
congrats to you and jayne! that ultrasound is the most exciting and awe inspiring...from nothing to a person. soon to come are kicks hard enough to throw jayne off balance, and the over taking of your apartment with more baby stuff than you knew existed. :) i'm sure you keep hearing it but it is oh so true - sleep now while you can!!
Ha! I noticed that too. Like a mini-baby.
Congrats Chez! All the best to both of you.
And it's a beautiful name.
My little girl is pushing 3 soon, so let me welcome you to the glorious and terrifying world (mostly good though) you are about to enter. At least you had the good sense to name her after a fictional character. We named ours after a major ancient goddess...and boy, has she lived up to her name. Regardless of the fact yours isn't named after a deity, though, prepare to be wrapped around all ten of her fingers. ;-)
Awwww. Congrats! Baby girls rawk! I've actually been watching Firefly all week so the Inara thing jumped out at me. It is a beautiful name. :)
I'm so excited for you guys. It's true - sleep now and often. I mean it. Now!
YAY!!!!!! I LOVE the name!!!! Beautiful!! Many, many congrats to all. Girls are a joy (I have 2, my oldest just presented me with my first grandson, and he is a wonder) and I hope for nothing but the best for all 3 of you.
much love from the Hoosier state.
boys destroy your house, girls destroy your mind. you're child's work is half-way complete!! congrats!
Brightest blessings to you and yours!
Shade and Sweetwater,
K
Congratulations!
And welcome to the roller coaster. I have five boys, ranging in age from 24 to 6. I'm tired. I've got lots of grey hair.
And it's glorious.
Congrats.
Congratulations and many blessings!
congratulations chez :D im really happy for you both, well for all 3 of you now :P
That's such a lovely name, Chez. Congratulations to you both!
Inara!!!! That's amazing. If the next is a boy, I vote for Hoban Derriell to pay homage to the fallen comrades of "Serenity". She is a beauty! Mine is 18 now. Best thing anyone ever created! The first twelve years are easier, and they go by lightning fast, so ENJOY!
Congrats to both of you. And no offense Chez, but I hope she looks more like Jayne than you. ;)
- Kara
i am awed.
oh congratulations !!!
my first grandchild is also due august 4th-i hope its a girl !
Uh-oh, a little Leo girl? You don't stand a chance. Trust me--mine is 2 1/2 and has, I believe, sapped me of all energy and memory. The upside is that she's a bright ray of sunshine, a whirlwind of fanciful thoughts and incredible insight. She's changed the lives of my husband and I (both also in our mid to late thirties) completely ... and utterly for the best. It's an amazing journey, from conception until the end of time, as far as I can tell. Each stage will be your favorite, everything she does will be fascinating, even the tantrums (although I suppose that many parents don't surreptitiously laugh while their child is having a holy shit fit but c'mon, it's better drama than you get from Hollywood these days... I suspect that you'll laugh, too).
Yet I don't have to tell you that you'll love every bit of it, even the rough parts, because I can see that you already know. Congratulations. And beautiful name!
Inara as in Firefly Inara?
Well played, sir.
~ dsbs
Inara... that's awesome.
Congratulations, again!
That is so excellent - congratulations! The pic is fantastic.
My bub is due July 23rd, and we just had our 20 week scan - when I saw your pic I thought someone on the net had stolen ours: http://nunnone.com/blog/fun/peanut-at-twenty/
All the best. She's lovely.
Holy God, what was in America's water supply last October that got so many women knocked up? Seriously, you and Jayne are the FIFTH couple I know of who are birthing in August. Pregnant in New York in the summer ... man, Jayne's really going to hate you in July. :D
In all seriousness, congrats to both of you and here's hoping Inara comes into the world safe and sound.
