Listening Post: Bonus Office Edition

I love The Office in ways an 8th grade vocabulary can't properly express.

The show has kept me sane at work by helping me to look at non-stop boredom and stupidity as something to laugh at, as opposed to the kind of thing that might make me want to crawl into a bathtub and drag in a toaster.

This homemade video is so unbelievably well done, it's worth watching over and over again.

Happy Humpday kids.

This was fabulous! I can't believe anyone has that much time on their hands. (As I comment on a blog fifteen minutes before the 5pm show)

This is the Americanised version of the show though Chez...
Have you seen the original British series?
It really is far superior, mostly because the subtleties of British humor haven't been "dumbed down" to make it more accessible for the American viewer.
No one can make the audience feel so awkward, amused and sad at the same time like Ricky Gervais does playing David Brent. Hes an absolute genius. As is the show.

Ps: Sorry to all the American readers here for using the phrase "Dumbed Down". Take no offense to it, Its morning and the best I could do.
I don't want to start a international incident.

I agree; the BBC version was exquisite. Ricky G's dance never fails to crack me up

hey hey hey- here's what I sent Kell (a gal I've never met yet love; fantasize as you wish) via myspace:

...
"Hey sweets- I saw what you posted on D.E.M.... Chez & I actually refused to watch the american version for the first few seasons, because we loved the brit version too much. (we were/are big fans of their 'coupling', the american version sucked for all 3 episodes that it lasted, and that's just one sorry example.)

but we gave it a chance, and it's bloody brilliant; perfectly adapted to the american screen without turning the original fans away. yay for them.

on another note- I've actually met and had a real conversation with ricky gervais while he stayed in NYC... JEALOUS? I would be. He's great- sweet and humble and funny and sincere, and oh! so polite. glad you're a fan!"
...

and her response:

...
"Yeah- I would have been really surprised if the two of you hadn't heard of/been fans of the British version. Ive admittedly only seen a few episodes of the American version. but it was enough for me to get mad and wonder why...Why did this have to get remade??? Its so perfect as it is.
Oh god, when did I become such a snob?

Meanwhile Im really glad to hear Ricky was a good guy. Though am not surprised."
...
so no insulting my down-under friend, Ok?

Listen, anglophiles: yes the British version is very good and very funny, but Goddamitt so is the American version. There's nothing wrong with liking that one too. Plus, God likes the American one better.

The American version is brilliant, which in no way changes the fact that the Brit version was also brilliant. David Brent is probably the single best character ever created for TV.
